Description

Rich, spiced slow cooker apple butter made by gently cooking apples until deeply caramelized and smooth, creating a cozy fall spread perfect for toast, baking, or breakfast dishes.


Ingredients

  • 56 large apples (mix of sweet and tart), peeled, cored, and chopped
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Peel, core, and chop the apples into small pieces.
  2. Add the apples to the slow cooker along with granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, salt, lemon juice, and vanilla extract if using.
  3. Stir well to evenly coat the apples.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 6–8 hours, stirring occasionally, until apples are very soft and darkened.
  5. Blend the mixture until smooth using an immersion blender or carefully in a standard blender.
  6. Return the smooth mixture to the slow cooker and cook uncovered for 1–2 additional hours, stirring occasionally, until thickened to desired consistency.
  7. Cool completely, then transfer to jars or containers for storage.
