Description

Enjoy crispy, juicy, and deep-fried perfection with these easy homemade fried mushrooms. They are the ultimate appetizer, featuring a golden-brown exterior and tender interior, enhanced with garlic powder and fresh parsley. This recipe is perfect for parties, movie nights, or as a savory snack, offering a delightful flavor and texture that everyone will love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 16-ounce package whole fresh white button mushrooms (washed, dried and stem trimmed)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt + more for topping
  • 1 cup whole milk (chilled)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish
  • Vegetable oil for frying (approximately 1.5 quarts)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the batter: In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, garlic powder, and salt. Gradually add the chilled milk and whisk until the batter is smooth.
  2. Heat the oil: Pour vegetable oil into a large heavy-bottom pan and heat it to 370°F (maintain between 360-380°F).
  3. Coat the mushrooms: Dip each mushroom into the batter one at a time using a fork, ensuring each is well-coated.
  4. Fry the mushrooms: Gently place the battered mushrooms into the hot oil using a slotted spoon in batches. Do not overcrowd the pan.
  5. Cook until golden brown: Fry for about 4 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove the mushrooms from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  6. Serve: Sprinkle with additional salt and fresh parsley, then serve immediately while hot.

Notes

  • For best results, ensure mushrooms are thoroughly washed and dried before battering.
  • Maintain a consistent oil temperature between 360-380°F for optimal crispiness.
  • Frying in small batches prevents the oil temperature from dropping, which can lead to soggy mushrooms.
  • Serve immediately for the best crispy texture.
