- 2 pounds medium to large shrimp (peeled and deveined)
- 1 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 cup canola oil
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1/2 cup honey (or maple syrup)
- 1 orange (zested and juiced)
- 1 tablespoon mirin
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- Green onions and sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the sauce by whisking garlic, soy sauce, honey, orange zest, orange juice, mirin, and red pepper flakes in a bowl until combined.
- Pat the shrimp dry and toss them with cornstarch in a large bowl until evenly coated.
- Heat oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat until shimmering.
- Fry shrimp in batches for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Drain excess oil from cooked shrimp on a plate.
- Stir the prepared sauce into the hot pan for 1-2 minutes until bubbling.
- Add shrimp back into the pan, tossing to coat them evenly in the sauce for about 1-2 minutes.
- Serve immediately garnished with green onions and sesame seeds.
